Kingdom of God Trail

“Now God’s home is with people! He will live with them, and he will be their God. He will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more grief or crying or pain. The old things have disappeared.” (Revelation 21:3-4)

Faith Steps.

  1. Read the essay on pg. 143 of the kids activity book. (Younger kids may choose to color the symbols on pg. 219 of the parent book at this time). Then watch the video “One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic” (found below). After viewing have each person write one word or draw a picture to represent each of the 4 marks on a peace of paper. Share answers as a family. See who remembered the 4 marks. (You may find you use different words to describe the same thing (ex: one/unified).

    a) For older kids: Complete the fill-in-the-blank activity (pg. 145 activity book)

    b) For younger kids: Complete the storybook activity on page (pg. 216 parent book)

  2. Review the “Communion of Saints” discussion on pg. 221 of the parent book. For older kids also review “Three States of the Church” on pg. 223. Complete the prayer activity on pg. 225 of the parent book.

  3. Complete the Apostles’ Creed Wrap-Up on pg. 226.

  4. Watch the Day 1 from the Parish Mission or kids homily from Fr. Bart as a family and then complete the quote matching activity on pg. 151 of the children’s activity book.

  5. Read Revelations 21:1-8 in The Catholic Children’s Bible. Discuss pg. 1968-1969 of The Catholic Children’s Bible. Listen to the recording of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem : 'In Paradisum" found below. Read and discuss the translation of the lyrics with your child. What images come to mind when you think of “A New Heaven and a New Earth?” Use artwork or draw pictures to portray these images as you complete the storybook activity on pg. 232 of the parent book.

“One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic”

Parish Mission Day 1

Kinds Homily Fr. Bart

“In Paridisum”

Translation:

May the angels lead you into paradise;

may the martyrs greet you at your arrival

and lead you into the holy City of Jerusalem.

May the choir of Angels greet you

and like Lazarus, who once was a poor man,

may you have eternal rest.

Antiphon from the traditional Latin liturgy of the Western Church Requiem Mass
