Light of Christ

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

Faith Steps.

  1. Read the essay on pg. 175 of the parent guide or watch the video “Who is the Holy Spirit.”

    a) Have your children complete one of the two activites on pg. 177 of the parent book.

    b) Read Galatians 5:22-33 in The Catholic Children’s Bible.

    c) Write in the fruits of the Holy Spirit on the “Fruit of the Holy Spirit” Worksheet. See image below for help. (You may also choose to draw your own tree as a family).

    d) Choose a gift of the Holy Spirit to pray for as a family each day of the week. (Optional: Watch “Unopened Gifts” Video)

  2. Watch the Sophia Sketchpad Confirmation video. Discuss the image on pg. 128 of the Family of Faith activity book. You will find guiding questions on pg. 192 of the parent book. You may also want to discuss the painting on 192. Talk to your children about the birthday of the Church and St. Peter (His biography is on pg. 194-195 of the parent book).

  3. Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 in The Catholic Children’s Bible. For younger kids: Review the sections on pg. 1808-1809 of The Catholic Children’s Bible. For older kids complete the discussion on pg. 197 of the parent book.

  4. Watch “We are the Catholic Church” video. Complete “The People of God” activity on pg. 198-199 in the parent book. (Younger kids will use pg. 134 in the activity book and older kids will use pg. 136 in the activity book.)

  5. Review “Symbols of the Spirit” on pg. 180 and the “Mission of the Church” on pg. 200-201 in the parent guide. Take a virtual tour of St. Peter’s Basilica with your children. While exploring St. Peter’s discuss the different elements of the church and what they represent. Ask your children if they see any thing that represents the Holy Spirit. Discuss how each element might represent different aspects of the Church’s mission: to teach, sanctify, and govern. (For examples see pg. 201). The next time you are at our Church look for these same things.
